The results of the Week 5 Performer of the Week Poll are here! Thanks to all that voted, and congratulations to this week's winners, Ava Alexander of West Chester Rustin and Troy Johnson of J.P. McCaskey!
Here's more on the weekend that these athletes had, and check out the poll results below!
Girls' Performer of the Week: Ava Alexander (West Chester Rustin)
The Rustin junior has been off to a hot start in 2021-22. After winning a AAA state title in the triple jump last spring, she's showing that she is even better this winter. This past week, Alexander went down to The VA Showcase and popped off a pair of indoor personal bests. Alexander placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 38-7.75, a US#21 performance. Then in the 200m, she went 25.93 for 15th overall in a loaded field.
She is proving to be among the state's most versatile athletes this winter. Alexander is currently PA#1 in the triple jump, PA#3 in the 400m, PA#4 in the long jump, and PA#6 in the 200m. With state rankings like that, she is going to have a busy day at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships next month.
Boys' Performer of the Week: Troy Johnson (J.P. McCaskey)
It was a breakthrough weekend for Johnson last week, who stormed to the state lead in not one, but two horizontal jumps!
Johnson leapt 22-10.5 in the long jump and 44-8 in the triple jump at the Golden Wolves Challenge at Alvernia University. He won both events and ascended to the PA#1 spot in the long and the triple. Both were also personal bests, regardless of indoor or outdoor. In the long jump, it was nearly a foot improvement on his personal best set last spring.
Johnson was a ninth place finisher at the outdoor state meet last year in AAA, just off the medal stand. Clearly, he has quite a bit of motivation coming into this winter, and he's putting it on display. He'll be one to watch whenever he steps on the runway the rest of this indoor season.
