Friday night DVGTCA Meet #5 at Alvernia University started off with a bang in the meet's first event -- the 4x800 meter relay.
The race was a back-and-forth battle that came down the the anchor legs. Central Bucks East took the final exchange in the lead with Pennsbury hot on their heels. A number of other teams were on the prowl, though.
With two laps to go, Friends' Central and Central Bucks South made up the gap to the two leaders. At the bell, Friends' Central and CB South had then opened up a gap on the rest of the field. But Pennsbury, anchored by Julia Sargent, found a second wind. Sargent caught back up and it was a drag race down the homestretch.
In the end, it was Sargent and Pennsbury that took the win in a race that saw the top three squads separted by less than a second!
Pennsbury's winning time of 9:58.73 was good enough for a new PA No. 3 CB South took second in a PA No. 4 9:58.74 and Friends' Central was third in a PA No. 5 time of 9:59.27. All told, that one race generated eight of the state's top 13 times in the 4x800m relay so far this season. Check out the full state rankings in the girls 4x800m relay here.
