Watch: Avery Lewis Ties Thelma Davies' 60m State Record

Avery Lewis didn't run the 60-meter dash a whole lot this season before the PTFCA Indoor State Championships a week and a half ago.

It was just her third, fourth, and fifth time racing the event in 2022.

But that didn't stop the Friends' Central sophomore from going to the top of all-time state rankings in the event. Lewis ran a time of 7.30 in the 60m final at the indoor state meet to tie Thelma Davies' state record in the event. Lewis ran 7.39 in the prelims and then 7.38 in the semifinals -- both PRs -- before matching Davies' best in the final to win the state title in the event.

Lewis broke Davies' meet record in the process, which stood at 7.31 from 2019 (a few weeks later, Davies went .01 faster at New Balance Nationals Indoor -- a time which stood as the record for the last three years).

In the same final, Laila Campbell of Spring Grove went 7.35 for second to move up to PA No. 4 all-time. She's now ahead of the likes of Breehana Jacobs, Jakki BaileyAja Davis, Rayiana Johnson, and Chanel Brissett.

Germantown Academy's Moforehan Abinusawa was third in the state final in 7.41 -- not far off her own PA No. 3 all-time in the event. In 2019, Abinusawa was second to Davies at the indoor state meet, running a time of 7.32 (Davies went 7.31 for the win and the state record at the time). Davies broke a ten-year-old record in 2016, and since then, the all-time list has seen quite the change-up.

With Lewis and Campbell being only sophomores, this list has a good chance to change quite a bit more over the next few years.
