The District 1 Championships are held on May 15th and 16th, so we are just a few days away from arguably the best and most competitive district sending their 5-8 qualifiers to the state championship meet, up at Shipensburg next weekend.
If someone makes it out of the district for district 1, they have a real shot to come home with a state medal in almost every event.
AAA Preview
Girls Meet Preview
Sprint Events Could Produce Fireworks
100m Dash
Cheltenham senior Amirah Nesmith enters as the top seed at 11.61, but Central Bucks East's Gabrielle Szyarto (11.80) and Garnet Valley's Felicia Grimmelbein are right there.
This race is absolutely loaded:
seven girls under 12.25
Multiple sub-12.5 athletes left out of projected finals
Freshmen already making major impacts, including Upper Darby's Laila Fofana
The margin between qualifying and missing finals could be just hundredths.
200m / 400m Double Watch
Aydriane Bowden may be the most versatile athlete in the meet. She's the top seed in both hurdles races and also enters the 200m at 24.23.
Meanwhile, Coatesville's Jalyncia Christman is entered at:
12.06 (100m)
24.96 (200m)
55.62 (400m)
That range makes her one of the most dangerous overall scorers in District 1.
The girls' 400m might quietly be one of the best races of the weekend:
Christman - 55.62
Natalie de Rezende - 55.63
Paige Evans - 55.71
Three athletes separated by less than a tenth.
Distance Races Are Stacked
1600m
Gwynedd-Mercy's Reese Miller enters as the clear favorite at 4:48.26, but the race behind her is loaded with depth.
Freshman Brooklyn Brown has been one of the breakout stars of the season and comes in at 4:55.15. Central Bucks East also has major firepower with three girls seeded 5:06 or faster.
3200m
The headline matchup may be:
Julia Kelly - 10:04.99
Reese Miller - 10:46.65
Kelly's seed is one of the top marks in the state this season and makes her one of the biggest favorites of the entire meet.
Relay Battles
4x100
Downingtown West enters heavily favored at 47.12, but Norristown, Great Valley, Penncrest, and Pennridge are all capable of pushing the pace.
4x400
Another major showdown:
Downingtown West - 3:48.76
Coatesville - 3:51.61
Norristown - 3:52.71
Upper Darby - 3:53.30
This could become one of the fastest relays run in Pennsylvania this year.
Field Events To Watch
Pole Vault
Central Bucks West's Maddie Fuhrmeister enters at 13-10.5 - an elite mark nationally.
Long Jump
Bensalem's Evette Wesseh leads the field at 20-4.5, one of the biggest marks in the state.
Javelin
Perkiomen Valley's Ava Flicker is the overwhelming favorite with a huge 172-2 seed.
Boys Meet Preview
The Sprinting Might Be the Best Part of the Meet
100m Dash
This may be the deepest race in the entire championship.
Leading the field:
Jonathan Wert - 10.44
Frank Bediako - 10.53
Derrick Bradley - 10.55
There are more than 20 athletes seeded under 10.95, meaning prelims alone could feel like a state final.
Garnet Valley's sprint depth with Wert and Cole Hoffacker could also make them dangerous in relays.
Hurdles Feature Elite Talent
Neshaminy's Cyrus Saunders enters as the top seed in the 110 hurdles at 13.97 while also being among the top sprinters in the 100m.
Upper Darby counters with:
Daniel Chukwu - 14.06
Kenny Virtue Jr. - 14.13
That battle could come down to the final hurdle.
Boys 4x800 Could Be Tactical and Fast
Haverford Township leads the field at 7:48.22, barely ahead of Perkiomen Valley and Lower Merion.
The best race of the weekend is looking like it will be the 3A boys 4x800m relay, with 11 schools already running 7:55 or faster this year. It will definitely be a great challenge to just make it to states.
Boys 800m
The boys' 800m is looking like it will be dominated by Josh Sharp, who has only lost 1 total race this year and is undefeated over 800m going back to states and nationals indoors. The senior from Upper Darby has run 1:50.38 this outdoor season and is currently ranked U.S #21.

Girls Preview
Angel White Looks Ready To Sprint Sweep
Angel White enters as the clear headline sprinter on the girls side:
12.32 in the 100m
25.41 in the 200m
She's the favorite in both events and could anchor Chester Charter to major relay points as well.
The 100m should still be competitive with:
Rafaela Alviggi (12.71)
Chloe Simon (12.85)
Nandi Williams (12.86)
But White has been on another level this season.
Ruby Keddie Headlines Distance Events
Ruby Keddie could be one of the biggest individual scorers of the meet.
She enters with:
5:08.15 in the 1600m
2:25.59 in the 800m
11:41.94 in the 3200m
Her biggest challenge may come from Abby Rowland in the longer races, especially the 3200m where the two are separated by only a few seconds.
The girls distance events also feature a strong freshman class:
Eliza Schloth
Georgia Swaim
Fiona Kaelin
All three could make major impacts immediately.

The girls team race feels like it could come down to:
Chester Charter Scholar Academy

Renijah Powell
Carrington Campbell
Meanwhile Faith Christian counters with balance everywhere:

That versatility could matter late in the meet.

Gabe Simkiss Could Own The Distance Events
Gabe Simkiss enters as arguably the biggest favorite in the entire meet.
His seeds:
1:56.96 (800m)
4:14.60 (1600m)
That 1600 mark especially stands out as one of the best small-school performances in Pennsylvania this spring.
If Simkiss doubles successfully, he could completely swing the boys team race.
Bristol Sprint Squad Is Loaded
Bristol High School has unbelievable sprint depth.
Leading the charge:
Jones Beauplan - 11.20
Kash-Shawn Morris - 11.20 / 22.35
Noah Taylor - 11.61 / 23.02
Their 4x100 seed of 43.77 is one of the fastest entered marks in either classification this weekend.
The boys sprint races could produce some of the fastest times of the entire meet.
Brady Clymer Is The Ultimate X-Factor
Brady Clymer may be the most valuable athlete in District 1 AA.
He's entered at:
50.55 (400m)
21-3 (long jump)
175-7 (javelin)
That range is wild, and he could realistically win multiple events.
Faith Christian's title hopes may depend on just how many points Clymer scores.
Best Boys Matchups
300 Hurdles
This may be the race of the meet:
Luke Confino - 41.19
Kaidan Rea - 41.53
Bennett Briggs - 42.10
Three legit contenders separated by less than a second.
