Veronica Vacca notched the first high school national title of her career and improved on her own freshmen class national record, winning the pole vault at Nike Indoor Nationals on Saturday.
The Mount Saint Joseph Academy (PA) ninth grader cleared 13 feet, 6.5 inches (4.13 meters) to win the Championship Pole Vault. That is a 4.5-inch improvement on Vacca's own indoor class record, which she set at the DVGTCA Meet of Champions on Feb. 18.

The jump moves Vacca up to US No. 7 on the season entering Sunday. It also takes her to PA No. 3 all-time, now trailing just state record holder Chloe Timberg (13-10) of CB West and Katie Jones (13-9.25) of South Williamsport.
Vacca wasn't the only PA girl making noise in the Championship Pole Vault. In fact, five of the top seven girls were from Pennsylvania. Maddy Kelley (Villa Maria) was second with a 12-6.75 clearance. Kennett's Kirstin Hoffman was fifth (12-0.75), Solanco's Katie Urbine was sixth (12-0.75), and Radnor's Sophia Hill was seventh (12-0.75).
