After a terrific indoor season, Spring Grove sophomore Laila Campbell is already making an impact outdoors. And she's just getting started.
Campbell won a pair of races in convincing fashion at Saturday's Bruce Dallas Invitational. Now she's set to take on some of the nation's best at the Arcadia Invitational in California this weekend.
But let's start with her stateside opener. Campbell went 11.75 to win the 100 meters and returned later in the day to win the 200 meters in 23.97. Both times are easily PA No. 1s on the season. Her time in the 100 is an all conditions PR and puts her all the way up to PA No. 18 all-time in the event (all conditions). In the 200 meters, Campbell isn't far off her PR of 23.74 from outdoor nationals last year.
Now, the tenth grader will head west for a big early season test. She's entered in the invitational sections of the 100 and 200 meters at Arcadia. She'll face some loaded field and (likely) see some warmer conditions than we're used to in early April in Pennsylvania.
