National Girls & Women in Sports Day: The Great Avery Lewis

Every so often, a new individual emerges amongst Pennsylvania's elite, making a name for themselves and inspiring the next group of young athletes. Avery Lewis of Friends' Central is one of those superstars.

Lewis has beyond-impressive abilities, sprinting and jumping, making a strong case for herself as a PA legend. She has six state titles to her name (three from the 2022 PTFCA Indoor State Championship and three from the 2022 PAISAA Outdoor State Championship). Not to mention Lewis won a 60m dash title in 7.27 last year at New Balance Nationals Indoor and has had top performances at countless other national caliber meets.

One of the most impressive things about Lewis is that all those accomplishments are from her sophomore year. Being an underclassman hasn't stopped her from being one of the top track and field talents in PA and the US.

To no surprise, 2022's momentum has catapulted Lewis into an already successful junior campaign. On the track side of things, she has had US Top-25 Performances over five different distances so far this year.

Lewis sits at US No.8 in the 55m after taking second at the Virginia Showcase, running 6.95. As for the 60m, she is tied for the current US No.12 position thanks to her 7.47 5th place finish at the Virginia Showcase.

The other sprint events Lewis is nationally ranked in are the 200m (24.39 for 4th place at the Virginia Showcase), the 300m (38.60 for 1st place at the Bishop Laughlin Games), and the 400m (55.89 for 1st place at the Armory HS Holiday Classic).

The junior's dominance isn't just on the track. Lewis is currently ranked US No.5 in the long jump. She won the Virginia Showcase covering an impressive 19'-11.25", the Armory HS Holiday Classic jumping 18'-11", and the Bishop Loughlin Games jumping 19'-6" earlier this season.

Avery Lewis is looking strong. With state and national championship meets just around the corner, it will be exciting to see her next big accomplishments.
