4x400m Relay Preview
by Zandrew Bowe
The Boys
A familiar name sits atop the rankings for the boys 4x400m. Roman Catholic will aim for the sprint relay double crown this weekend with their state best of 3:22.76.
The race for second will be a bit closer between Abington, who ran 3:23.65 in a win at the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival. In comparison, Central Bucks West has a season's best of 3:23.93.
Episcopal Academy has star mid-distance runners, but their 4x400m team comes in at the fourth seed in 3:24.62. They took second place at the state meet last year and will need significant efforts to match or improve that performance. Cumberland Valley follows them with 3:25.96, and Upper Dublin will finish the top 6 with 3:26.
The Girls
The girls of J.P. McCaskey lead the Girls 4x400m. They took third at the meet just this last season, and now they are poised for victory heading into Saturday. They have the state lead by almost 7 seconds with their US No. 6 time of 3:53. They'll focus their energy on climbing the PA all-time leaderboard and the US rankings this weekend.
The following closest teams are the girls of Haverford Township at 4:00.56 and West Chester Rustin at 4:01.36. With some considerable effort, both teams will look to break the sub-four barrier.
Several other teams will aim for new seasons' best times and place high: Cumberland Valley, last year's champions, Central Bucks West, Penncrest, Penn Charter, Upper Dublin, and many more.
