The WPIAL Team Championships were decided on Tuesday, April 9th - with several teams reigning victorious in their respective divisions. In the 3A classifications, North Allegheny swept the boys and girls title. The Rundown

3A Team Championship

North Allegheny's dominance in the WPIAL continued. The North Allegheny boys' squad added to its illustrious history with a 14th team title, the most in WPIAL history. They scored double-digit victories over Mount Lebanon, Seneca Valley, and Butler to score the win.

The Mount Lebanon boys claimed runner-up honors, while Butler finished third and Seneca Valley finished fourth.

The North Allegheny girls recorded their 13th team title and second since 2005.

The NA squad was decisive and well-balanced. As expected, they got a slew of points in the distance events - including a sweep in the 1600m as Wren Kucler, Robin Kucler, and Eva Kynaston all ran 5:11 or faster.

They also received crucial points from field and jump events, as well as some sprint events,

According to WPIAL.org, this year marks the first time that North Allegheny has swept since 2005.

"It's a dream come true to have one team that can win a title; it's a whole different level to have two teams at the same time bring home championships," said NA Head Coach John Neff. "All of the smiles around the team make all the hours of practice they put in worth it. It reinforces to everyone that effort works."

2A Boys Team Championship

Greensburg Central Catholic scored its first WPIAL Team Championship. They edged Quaker Valley, Shenango, and South Park for the team trophy.

Head Coach Mike Brewer added some perspective about the team's victory.

"The team made the 2022 WPIAL Team Finals... but came up short in the last couple events of the day," Brewer said. "On the bus ride home (from the 2022 WPIAL finals), team leaders such as Nate Dlugos, Amari Mack, and Jack Havrilesko said, 'Next year we are getting a ring.'

Brewer explained that the team worked all season with that intent in mind - and it paid off at the WPIAL Team Final.

"At the WPIAL Team finals, the boys delivered. We broke four school records on the day and had a number of other personal-best performances. When your team shows up like that on game day, good things will follow."

It was indeed a dominant showing for GCC. The team recorded wins in ten different events.

Quaker Valley finished as the runner-up, South Park finished in third, and Shenango placed fourth.

2A Girls Team Championship

Quaker Valley scored its second straight team title and ninth total Team Championship with wins over Winchester Thurston, Knoch, and Derry. They cleared each team by an average of 45 points.

Dominantly - the QV squad controlled the track and the field. They earned first-place honors in eleven events and found ways to optimize their scoring potential.

"I am very proud of the work and effort that they (The Quaker Valley Girls) have put in this season," said Quaker Valley Head Coach Jared Jones. "The results from yesterday are proof of their hard-earned efforts."

"Jay Olawaiye and Sarah Minard claimed school records. Jay's triple jump of 39-5.5 is a new school record and currently the number one mark in the state for AA girls. Sarah Minard also broke her own school record in the Pole Vault (Twice) with a final jump of 10-2."

Winchester Thurston placed runner-up, while Knoch finished third and Derry finished fourth.
