Friends' Central Junior Avery Lewis was named the Gatorade Pennsylvania Girls Player of the year for the 2023 track season.

During the indoor 22-23' indoor season, Lewis was named PA MileSplit's Overall Athlete of the Year and the Junior of the Year.

Just when you think the level of competition can't get any better, Lewis always seems to raise the bar. She added to her lengthy list of accomplishments day in and day out during the 2023 outdoor season.

During the indoor season, she dominated practically every single meet she competed at. At the state meet, she won the 60m, 200m, and long jump... almost single handedly winning the state title.

Lewis has been near perfect at Franklin Field on the outdoor circuit as well. She won the Penn Relays Long Jump title and added another National title with a win at New Balance Nationals in the same event.

Lewis was behind early in that competition, but with a season's best and new state record jump of 20-9.5 she got the victory at NBNO. With that win, Lewis successfully completed a nationals sweep after having won the NBNI Long Jump as well. She also earned herself All-American status in both the 100m and 200m on the outdoor circuit.

Recently, Lewis added a personal best in the 200m at the NYC Grand Prix. She finished fourth in the Elite high school field which also featured Shawnti Jackson and Adaejah Hodge. She maintains her rank as PA No. 3 AT in the event.

Gatorade selects and awards each State's top girl and boy in each sport with their Player of the Year Award. Each state winner is automatically nominated for consideration for the National Player of the Year Award.
