PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Colton Dean (Canon-McMillan) defended his home state in a big way by winning the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Decathlon Championship.

Dean, an eleventh grader, scored an incredible 6961 points. Fellow Pennsylvanian, Jey Brown, finished second with 6444, 517 points back.

Dean's points total will go down as the third most by a Pennsylvanian all-time, while Brown's total will sit in the No. 4 All-Time spot.

To accomplish the feat, Dean posted personal best marks in the 100m (10.58 (2.1 m/s), the long jump (23-5.5), high jump (5-9.25), 400m (50.89), Discus (133-6), and Javelin (171-7). He hit lifetime bests in six of his ten events.

It was the perfect storm for Dean. He opened his weekend with a big personal best in the 100m and never looked back. He led the field in the 100m, long jump, and javelin. He never surrendered his decathlon points standings lead.
