Pennsylvania Shows Out at 2024 American JavFest

Pennsylvania javelin throwers had a stellar weekend at the American JavFest in East Stroudsburg. Throwers from across the country descended on eastern Pennsylvania to compete in the specialty competition on July 12th and July 13th.

Paul Catalanatto of Catholic High Louisiana, won the boys competition with a personal best 234-1. His previous best of 232-11.25 held the US No. 1 slot since March 30th. Last month he finished second at the USATF U20 Championships.

Bronson Krainak (Danville) and Lincoln Huber (Central Columbia) finished in second and third with their throws of 204-2 and 203-4.5, respectively. They finished 1-2 at the PIAA 3A Championships in May.

Krainak will attend and compete for Wichita State University next year.

Joseph Roth (Lehighton) finished in second in the emerging elites division. He threw a personal best of 185-08.75. His previous best was a 179-6 from the District 11 Championship (3A). He will return to Lehighton in 2024-25.

On the girls' side, Sophia Mazzoni (Derry) and Rosalind Gergely had strong outings for PA. They finished in third and fifth with throws of 152-09.75 and 148-11. Mazzoni recently won the PIAA (2A) Javelin Championship, as well as the New Balance Nationals Outdoor title. She will return to Derry in 2024-25.

Gergely, a Wake Forest University commit, won the 3A State Championship in May. This was her best throw since then.
