PIAA District 1 Championships Preview:
It's districts week for all teams across PA and with some of the bigger districts we are doing previews for where we think teams and individuals will place. District 1 is always one of the biggest and best districts in the state and this year is no different with the talent that is coming out of it. The top 6 teams will qualify for the PIAA State Championships and 30 individuals excluding anyone from a team qual. (Discussion between Dylan Leone and Jackson Polin to decide 6 teams and top 25 finishers all rankings and predictions are subjective and opinion based)
The teams we think are locks for states are 1 North Penn 2 Council Rock North 3 Perkiomen Valley
The teams that have a good chance of making is 4 Council Rock South 5 Central Bucks East 6 West Chester Henderson
The teams that could potentially make it 7 Penncrest 8 Lower Merion 9 Haverford
To sum things up on the team side we believe places will go 1 North Penn 2 Council Rock North 3 Perkiomen Valley 4 Council Rock South 5 Central Bucks East 6 West Chester Henderson. With Penncrest Lower Merion and Haverford all needing to have a good day to qualify as a team. All 3 teams are very capable of displacing and earning a team qual as they all have very strong top 2-4 runner. It will come down to how well each teams #5 run on the day.
The team title on the boys side seems like it's going to be a fight between North Penn and Council Rock North as they have battled all season long. We have decided to give the edge to North Penn as they just beat Council Rock North in a head to head at there league Championships just last Friday.
To move on to the team side the top 25 medal at the meet with 30 individuals qualifying for states that aren't apart of a team qualification.
The 2 time defending district champ Nicholas Mazzeo has to be the favorite going into the meet and we believe he will complete the 3 peat. The top 25 we have are listed in order as such:
To sum things up we believe that Nick will complete his 3 peat of district titles and Matt will split the twins of Alex and Nick just like he did last year with Justin and Tyler rounding out the top 5 individual finishers.
Just a reminder that this is only a prediction and that nothing we say will happen for certain just what we believe the outcomes will be.
