A.J. Suravicz of Hanover nearly breaks 4 in the mile @ Notre Dame

Ever hear of Hanover's A.J. Suravicz? Well, you are now, and you probably will in the future if you follow those few who flirt with the four-minute mile. Suravicz is now a senior at Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA. Over the weekend, he ran in the Meyo Mile at Notre Dame. Four guys broke four, and A.J. was 5th in a PR of 4:00.14, which is an NCAA provisional time.

One who certainly remember AJ in high school is his coach, C. James Park, who wrote us with the reminder that Suravicz was a PIAA state champ in the 800 (1:56.24), ran leadoff on the state championship team 4x400m relay (49.6) and also ran the second leg on the 3rd place 4x100m relay in 11.4. AJ also holds the Hanover school record in the 1600m at 4:26, and ran every event from the 100 to the 2 mile in his senior year of 1998 and was undefeated.

Oh, and former PA cross and 1600 AAA champ Notre Dame's Stephania Madia (North Allegheny), was 15th in the 3000 in 9:39.70.
