Juniors (Sat-Sun) Trevor Barron won the 10000 meter racewalk in 42:58.62.

Tamaqua junior Allison Updike (left in photo by Vic Sailer, PhotoRun.net) won the javelin on her final throw, going 167-2 - which ties her for the PA all-time best with Lakeview's Fawn Miller. The mark also makes her the 6th best performer all-time. (Updike video interview) | (She knew it the moment she threw. She felt nothing at all - by Don Rich) Carlton Lavong, Methacton, took 2nd in the long jump, clearing 24-07.25, and 5th in the triple jump in 49-11.75. Nicole Lord, (Penncrest HS/Penn State University), took 3rd in the Juniors 3000 meter steeplechase, going 11:05.50. Ben Furcht (Lower Merion/Georgetown University) was 4th in the 10000 meter run in 32:13.22. And Ashley Adams (Freedom Area/Duquesne University) was 5th in the shot put with a PR of 47-08. She was 11th in the Discus at 152-06.

USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Seniors (Sat-Sun) Hyleas Fountain (Central Dauphin East/Barton CC-Georgia) captured the heptathlon by a wide margin, totaling 6735 points. Ryann Krais (Methacton/UCLA) moved up to 7th overall with with 5693 points following a strong 800 meter run, which she won in 2:13.07. Kristy Woods (Grove City/University at Buffalo) was was 9th in the shot put with a 54-04.75 and Karen Shump (Penncrest/ Oklahoma) was 11th with her put of 54-00.

Nicole Leach (West Catholic/UCLA) advanced to the finals of the 400 meter hurdles with a repeat of her prelims time of 56.56. She would finish 2nd in the finals in 55.83.

John Hetzendorf (Warrior Run/Kent State - Asst. Coach Wichita State) was 6th in the javelin with a throw of 237-01. Ryan Fritz (Octorara/Penn State) was 6th in the high jump, clearing 7-02.50. LaTavia Thomas (West Catholic/LSU) was 6th in the finals of the 800 in 2:01.70.
Seniors (Wed-Fri)
Olympic medalist Hyleas Fountain (Central Dauphin East/Barton CC & Georgia) (right in photo by Vic Sailer, PhotoRun.net), won ALL day one events in the Heptathlon, going 12.93 in the 100 meter hurdles, cleared 6-02.75 in the high jump, put the shot 45-00.50, and went 23.29 in the 200 meter dash. Her one day total is 4068, giving her a lead of over 400 points. Ryan Sheehan, (Baldwin HS/St. Francis), finished 4th in the Open 10,000 meter run in 29:18.55. LaTavia Thomas (West Catholic HS/LSU) advanced to the semis of the Open 800 in 2:02.41, and a day later, advanced to the finals with her 2:02.26. Former West Catholic teammate Nicole Leach (UCLA), advanced to the semis of the Open 400 meter hurdles in 56.56. Craig Miller (Manheim Township/Wisconsin) was 4th (15th overall) in his heat of the 1500 meter run in 3:41.09, just edged by Oregon's AJ Acosta. He was three spots and less than half-a-second from advancing to the finals. In the Open Javelin, Amy Backel (Northern/Oklahoma), was 6th with a throw of 174-02. In the 5000 meter run, State College HS coach Rebecca Donaghue was 7th in 15:46.66.
