Penn State Announces Opportunities for Coaches, Officials, and Athletes
Nittany Lions to host variety of clinics throughout indoor season
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.: November 30, 2010 – Director and Head Coach of Nittany Lion Track and Field/Cross Country Beth Alford-Sullivan and the Penn State coaching staff are proud to announce a series of opportunities for coaches, officials, and aspiring athletes, to be held over the next several months. Beginning with the USATF Officials’ Clinic in conjunction with the Blue/White Intrasquad Meet on December 11, the Nittany Lions will host opportunities for aspiring track and field athletes, as well as high school and collegiate coaches, all of which will be instructed by professionals with countless years of track and field experience. USATF Officials’ Clinic
When: Saturday, December 11; 9:00 a.m.
Where: Ashenfelter III Indoor Multi-Sport Facility
Who Should Attend: The Clinic is open to those with no or little experience in officiating, or even those that might want to hone their skills in preparation for the indoor season. Attendees will also have the opportunity to use what they’ve learned during the Blue/White Meet, which will follow the clinic at 2:00 p.m.
Instructors: The clinicians will be master level officials with extensive experience at all levels of track & field officiating and will be offering hands on training at various venues within the Ashenfelter Multi-Sport Facility.
Cost: There is no cost for the clinic unless the attendee chooses to pursue their USATF certification, which requires application fee for certification of $65 covers the current Olympiad (through 2012). Membership in USATF is required for certification and will provide liability insurance as an official. Membership is $29.95/year. Bringing these fees to the clinic will facilitate the certification process.

Penn State Track and Field Day Camp
When: Sunday, December 19; 12:00-4:00 p.m.
Who Should Attend: Anyone from ages 10 to 18 interested in improving their track and field skills and techniques. All ability levels welcome.
Instructors: The Day Camp will be facilitated by members of the Penn State Track and Field Coaching Staff.

Penn State High School Coaches’ Clinic
When: Friday, January 21; 4:00-9:00 p.m.
Where: Ashenfelter III Indoor Multi-Sport Facility
Who Should Attend: Any and all high school coaches who are interested in learning more about coaching track and field at all levels. The clinic will offer extensive lessons in all aspects of track and field, with a special segment devoted to coaching student athletes in the pole vault event, and pole-vaulting safety considerations. By attending this entire program, you can earn 4 contact hours toward fulfilling Act 48 requirements. For additional information, visit www.outreach.psu.edu/info/act48.

USATF Level I Coaches’ Clinic – Presented by Gill Athletics
When: February 18-20, 2011
Where: Pennsylvania State University (various on-campus locations)
Who Should Attend: The USATF Coaching Education Level 1 program is intended as a starting point for coaches. One of the objectives of the Level 1 program is to put all coaches on common ground (i.e., speaking the same language). The Level 1 program covers all events in a rudimentary manner by emphasizing fundamentals, rules, safety/risk management, and instruction techniques. The Level 1 Course prepares an individual to coach at the junior high school, high school, club, and junior age division level.
