In the triple jump, Athens Area's Jarred Gambrell posted a PR of 50-0.75 on his first jump of the finals - temporarily taking the lead over top seed and eventual champ Marquis Dendy of Middletown DE (50-8.25).
Derek Gaul of Schuylkill Valley was the top American in the long jump, going 23-4.75 and finishing 4th.
In the HSG 4x400 Meter Relay - Philadelphia Area Championship, Abington more than attoned for a dropped baton in the 4x100 earlier in the day, running 3:47.16, PA#1.

Friday
Strath Haven girls finished 4th in the Championship of America 4x800 meter relay with a US#3 time of 9:05.34! In the boys 4x800 qualifying heats, Central Bucks West (7:51.57 PA#2), Abington (7:51.85), Lasalle (7:52.12 PA#3), and Wissahickon (7:52.12 PA#4) ALL qualified for Saturday's Championship of America final!
In the discus, Kyle Long of Hempfield finished a very impressive 3rd with a mark of 188-2 with Kyle Felpel of Cocalico finishing right behind him in 4th with a mark of 178-9.
In the 4x100 girls small school championship, Cheltenham was 6th with a time of 48.84. In the large school championship race, Abington finished 4th with a time of 48.30 to take over PA#1 (Photo by Charlie Stone) and Central Dauphin East (48.58), Norristown (48.60), and Upper Darby (48.89) rounded out the final three places.
In the boys 4x100 small school heats, Strath Haven finished 6th overall with a time of 42.24 to lead the state. Father Judge boys has the fastes time in the large school heats, finishing 8th with a PA#2 time of 42.53. Central Bucks West was 10th with a time of 42.60 (PA#3) and Cheltenham was 11th in 42.65 (PA#4).

Central Bucks South was a fantastic 2nd place in the Championship of America distance medley relay with a time of 10:15.46!
Ryan Gil of North Allegheny finished 6th in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:30.91.
Praduman Singh of Upper Darby finished 7th in the shot put with a mark of 53-8.25.
Thursday
Strath Haven girls won their section of the 4x800 meter relay with the 3rd fastest time of the day and US#3 time of 9:09.62 (Allie Wilson 2:18.3, Val Wilson 2:17.4, Katie Balmer 2:16.1, Hannah Grossman 2:17.8). West Chester Henderson was 2nd behind Strath Haven and also advanced to the Championship of America final with a US#9 time of 9:16.83. Two other PA teams made the final. Central Bucks West (9:21.44) and Academy of Notre Dame (9:21.54).
In the small school heats of the 4x100 meter relay, Cheltenham had the fastest PA time and as of 12:45pm is PA#4 with a time of 48.38. Gwynedd-Mercy Academy moved up to PA#8 with a time of 49.34, Paul Robeson moved up to PA#9 with a time of 49.55, and West Catholic moved to PA#10 with a time of 49.60. For the large schools pre rain delay, Abington became the new state leader with a time of 48.18, with Central Dauphin East running a PA#2 time of 48.31 and Norristown running a PA#3 time of 48.32. After the rain delay, Upper Darby ran 48.53 to earn PA#5 honors while Quakertown ran 49.00 for PA#6 honors.
Lauren Kenney of State College threw a US#2 mark of 156-2 in the javelin to set a new Penn Relays Record! Tamaqua sophomore Christine Streiserl waited until her final throw to secure 2nd with a PR of 153-10.
Abington ran a new state leading time of 3:51.76 to easily win their heat of the 4x400 meter relay. West Catholic
won their heat of the 4x400 meter relay with a PA#2 time of 3:53.49. Former PA#1 Central Bucks West stayed in the top three with a PA#3 time of 3:56.88 to win their heat. Upper Darby ran a PA#4 time of 3:58.68 to win their heat of the 4x400. Spring Ford (3:59.07) andf Strath Haven (3:59.40) ran PA#7 and PA#8 times respectively.
Angel Piccirrillo of Homer Center repeated as Penn Relays One Mile Run Champion with a huge personal best time of 4:48.83! Angel sat in 2nd place for over 85% of the race and made her move on the backstretch on the final lap. On the final turn, she withstood the challenge of two other runners to hang on and retain her crown! Maria Seykora of Notre Dame ran a major PR in the mile with her 5th place finish in 4:53.89.
Tori Gerlach of Pennridge was the first finisher in the chase pack that was behind the first three runners. Gerlach would finish in a spectacular 4th place with a major personal best of 9:40.42!
In the pole vault that was contested indoors due to rain and high winds, Larisa Debich of Hempfield Area (7) finished 4th with a clearance of 12-1.50. Katheen McPhillps of Carlisle (11-5.75) and Haley Gorenflo of Plymouth Whitemarsh (11-1.75) finished 5th and 6th respectively.

Mary Newell of Villa Joseph Marie finished 11th in the discus with a mark of 119-11. In the high jump, Anne Holland of Pennridge cleared 5-6.50 to finish 7th. In the shot put, Megan Dornish of Elk County finished 4th with a mark of 44-5.50.
