After a full week of track and field action, we have officially reached the midway point of the 2011-2012 indoor season. This past week, the field events athletes found their stride and put on some good performances on our top 8 list.
Chris Williams of Strath Haven improved on his state lead in the pole vault. The former US#1 set a Delaware County record with a clearance of 15-6 last Thursday night at the county championship! The high jump featured three new performances to the top five led by 6-4 clearances from Jalen Ramsey of Norristown and Alex Gregro of Wilson (3). Taron Howie of Strath Haven cleared 6-3 for PA#4 honors. In the Shot Put, Kyle Felpel of Cocalico threw a US#4 and PA#2 mark of 59-2 at Kutztown on Saturday. The top three in PA in the shot put are in the national top five! Chazz Wilks of Cardinal O'Hara added almost two inches to his seasonal best, throwing 56 feet even for PA#4 honors at the DELCO Champs. Cody Mining of Neshaminy earned a PA#3 mark in the long jump with a winning mark of 22-2.25 at Lehigh, while Harley LaCroix of Cheltenham cracked the top five in the triple jump with a mark of 45-7.75 in the same meet.
On the track, the mile added two top three performances led by Brett Kelly of Boyertown (PA#2 4:23.86) and Joe O'Such of Spring Ford (PA#3 4:25.10) at the Millrose Trials last Wednesday. Andrew Stone of Lasalle ran a PA#5 time of 1:57.88 to win the 800 meters last Friday at the PCL meet. Shacor Hamilton of Cardinal O'Hara ran 22.57 for PA#4 honors in the 200 meter dash at the DELCO Championships. A tie for PA#5 in the 55 meter dash is held by Cardinal O'Hara's Lamont Veal and Deshawn Pickett of Girard College in 6.68. Eric Futch of Penn Wood (PA#2 7.63) and Chris Williams of Strath Haven (PA#3 7.65) went 1-2 in the 55 meter hurdles at DELCO Champs. Futch also added a PA#4 8.31 60 meter hurdle performance Saturday at Lehigh.
At the half way point of the season, PA has one US#1 performance, 13 US top five performances and 22 US top ten performances!
