The opening weekend of February produced some good performances as teams get themselves ready for the stretch run that leads to Penn State and in the indoor championships on February 25.
This week, the ladies produced two US top five performances. The consistent Swenson girls finished 3rd in the 4x400 meter relay at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational with a US#3 time of 3:51.07! Swenson have run the three fastest PA 4x400 meter relays in the state this year. Speaking of consistent, Larisa Debich of Hempfield has been one of the most consistent pole vaulters this season, and at TSTCA#3, Debich cleared a T-US#3 height of 12-6 in the pole vault.
While winning four events, and seven of her first eight races of the season, Angel Piccirillo of Homer Center got her first state leading mark of the season, running 10:06.20 to win the 3000 meter run. Piccirillo also recorded a PA#2 mark in the 800 meter run (2:14.77), a PA#3 mark in the mile (4:59.30), and a PA#4 mark in the 400 meter dash (58.30). Other top five PA performances include a PA#4 from Quakertown's Jody Ann Evans in the 200 meter dash (25.62), a PA#4 2:15.74 800 meter performance from Marissa Sheva of Pennridge, and PA#5 performances from Swenson's Imani Harris in the 400 (58.1), and Council Rock South's Paige McDowell in the 60 meter hurdles (9.36). For the relays, West Chester Henderson (PA#3 9:29.4) and Council Rock North (PA#5 9:40.50) recorded top five performances in the 4x800 meter relay.
In the field events, Ahmenah Richardson of Milton Hershey cleared a PA#3 height of 5-6 in the high jump, becoming the 3rd girl and first since December 17 to clear that height. Grace Giampetro of Villa Maria Academy and Lexi Masterson of Hempfield both cleared 11-6 in the pole vault. Taylor Woods of Hickory improved on her PA#2 mark in the shot put with a mark of 41-6 at Slippery Rock, and closing the gap between her and her teammate Jennifer Neider for the state lead. Alexandra Stevenson threw a PA#5 mark of 38-3.50 at TSTCA to join the 38 foot plus club. Finally, the triple jump produced two top five marks, as Lanae Newsome of Brookville (PA#2 37-7.25) and Diamond Hodge of Girls High (PA#4 37-0.25) moved up.
