A very active weekend was highlighted by a state record in the 800, the 3rd time in the last four years the state record has been broken.
Ned willig of Great Valley took a trip to Yale University and after anchoring his school's distance medley relay to PA#1 honors on Friday in 4:16 (10:27.56), Willig won the 800 meter run on Saturday in a US#11 ALL TIME performance of 1:51.25. Willig's mark breaks the old mark set by Wade Endress at last year's state meet (1:51.73). On top of that, three new performances made the 800 list, making the cut off for the top 8 at 1:58.56! The mile also added four new performances led by a PA#2 4:22.26 from Jack Huemmler of Strath Haven and a PA#3 4:23.73 from Ryan Horgan of Holy Ghost. Sam Hibbs of Hatboro Horsham ran a PA#2 8:53.72 to win the 3000 meter run at the Kevin Dare Invitational, becoming the 4th athlete this season to break 9 minutes. Cardinal O'Hara ran 8:12.52 in the 4x800 meter relay for PA#4 honors to highlight distance relays at the New Balance Game for the boys.
In the sprints, a new US#1 time was recorded in the 60 meter hurdles by Chris Williams of Strath Haven (7.87). This is the 2nd year in a row that Williams has held the top national ranking in this event! We had the first sub 50 second 400 meter performances of the season! Lincoln Daniel of Strath Haven ran 49.97 at Kevin Dare for PA#1 honors. A PA#2 performance from Alex Shisler of State College (50.28) and a PA#4 performance of 50.32 from Corey Hackett of Hatboro Horsham moved the top 8 cut off to 50.96. The top three in the 200 meter dash are all from the Kevin Dare Invite, led by a 22.17 from Nicholas Patton of Tyrone Area. Four new performances cracked the top 8 in the 60 meter dash led by a PA#3 7.01 from Joey Wall of Ringgold. In the relays, SEVEN of the top eight performances in the 4x200 meter relay came over the weekend, led by a US#3 1:29.69 from Penn Wood at the New Balance Games. PA hold four of the twenty performances on the national list. The 4x400 meter relay also had seven new performances, led by a PA#2 3:25.04 from Strath Haven at Kevin Dare.
In field event action, we had state leading performances from De'vion Tate of McDowell in the long jump (22-7), and Kyle Felpel of Cocalico in the shot put (59-5). Felpel's performance is also a US#4 mark! The pole vault had it's 3rd 15 foot clearance, this time from Laurel Highland's Jacob Hensh. Outdoor AAA Champion Patrick Anderson of Kane cleared 14-11 at Kent State. Finally, two more 6-3 clearances were recorded in theh high jump from Joey DeCecco of Cumberland Valley and John Mudrey of Hickory.
