Two more PA state leaders were produced over the weekend, and Western PA schools looked to break into the top 8 with some teams finally making their 2012 debuts.
The high jump has a share of the state lead, as both Shawn Johnson of Canon-McMillan and John Mudrey of Hickory both cleared 6-7 going head to head at TSTCA #2. The clearances were the first clearances in the state at 6-5 or better since the 2nd week of the season. The other state leader was TJ Elliott of Central Dauphin East, who ran 6.47 to win the 55 meter dash at Susquehanna. Elliott is also the state leader in the 60 meter dash with a 6.96 from December 29, one of only two guys under 7 seconds this season.
Other highlights from the weekend include a PA#3 4:22.95 4th place mile finish from Dustin Wilson of chestnut Hill Academy at the US Open in New York city, three new 3000 meter performances led by a PA#5 9:00.58 from Brendan Shearn of North schuylkill, a PA#2 7.48 in the 55 meter hurdles from Aaron Willett of Coatesville, and a PA#5 50.53 400 meter run from Tyler Ross of Greater Latrobe.
In other field events, Patrick Anderson of Kane Area cleared 15-1 in the pole vault to take sole posession of the PA#2 spot, and Shawn Mayer of Palmyra became the 5th PA vaulter to clear 15 feet this season. Matt Bell of Hickory threw 57 feet even in the shot put for PA#4 honors, and Umar Moore of Moon Area recorded a PA#5 mark of 22-2.50 in the long jump.
