4/6 - Sheena Gordon wins three events

TSTCA Outdoor Championships

Sheena Gordon, McDowell, won three events, and the javelin champions showed the crowd at a cold West Mifflin High School track how it's done. Ryan Sherwood, of McDowell, picked up where he left off last year (#1 in the country), with a throw of 229-01, only 9" short of his best effort of 2001. Freedom's Ashley Kaufman won the Javelin championship with her throw of 139-02 (Her best is 143-11 from June 2001). Gordon won all three jumps contested, the High Jump (5-10), the Triple Jump (38-03), and the Long Jump (18-06.50). Other notable performances included Anne Gagliardi's 800 (2:30.26) 1600 (5:19.27) double for Franklin Regional; and a hurdles double for Canon McMillan's Denia Matthews, who took the 100 in 16.22 and the 300 in 47.00. Defending state champ McDowell won the girls' title by just five points over Canon McMillan. On the boys' side, Baldwin's Dan Mazzocco doubled, taking the 1600 in 4:28.53 and the 3200 in 9:37.44. Hempfield's Matt Evans went 1:58.01 for the 800 victory. Mt. Lebanon won a close team battle by just 3.50 points over Woodland Hills, and 4.50 points over Butler.
