Seniors Hugo Beamish (Havelock North, New Zealand) and Brian Long (Louisville, Ky.) each registered personal best times with impressive runs in the 5000 meters at the Flotrack Husky Classic in Dempsey Indoor on Friday night. The two athletes are part of a small Villanova contingent running at this weekend's highly competitive West Coast meet.

Track season is back and the first big meet of the year was on Saturday in Lexington.  Below you will find Week 2 of the KYtrackXC.com Athletes of the Week.  There were no middle schools meets this week, so there are only High School and College Awards.  Any former Kentucky high school track athlete is eligible for the weekly college award regardless of whether or not the school is located in Kentucky.

Senior Brian Long (Louisville, Ky.) led a trio of Villanova runners that placed first through third in the 3000 meters and the Wildcats enjoyed several individual highlights during competition on Friday at the Albany Great Dane Classic. The meet was held at the New York Armory and the Wildcats came in third out of 24 schools with 63 team points.

KYtrackXC.com in preparation for the 2008 Kentucky State Cross Country Meet has caught with several former Kentucky State Cross Country Champions asking them to describe their memories of winning a state championship. This is the first of five installments in the “State Meet Memories” series. (Pictured: 06' State Champion Brian Long)

2006 Kentucky AAA State Cross Country Champion Brian Long (St. Xavier) now a freshmen at Villanova University will run in the USATF XC Junior Nationals this Saturday in San Diego, California. 

Kentucky alums finish 16th as a state led by former St. Xavier runner Bobby Curtis's 4th place finish.  The highest known finish EVER by a former Kentucky high school runner.

Brian Long (St. Xavier) and Mary Grace Pellegrini (duPont Manual) were named the 2007 Kentucky Gatorade Track & Field Athletes of the Year.
