The Pitt track and field team gave back to the City of Pittsburgh this past weekend. More than 100 track and field and cross country student-athletes rolled up their sleeves on Sept. 8 to help transform the Homewood neighborhood. The Love Your Block program was created by Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and The Home Depot Foundation to revitalize the city, `block by block.' With grant money provided by Home Depot, the selected groups purchase equipment and supplies to beautify and repair city neighborhoods.Many older buildings in Homewood were private properties and are still off-limits to city cleaning crews. However, Pitt student-athletes made time to contribute to this effort despite being in the midst of preparing for upcoming meets. Led by Pitt head track coach Alonzo Webb, the group eagerly helped by clearing out buildings and weeding the areas surrounding them.

The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's track and field team kicks off the 2011-12 indoor season with its annual Blue-Gold Meet on Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3. Friday's action begins at 3 p.m. at the Cost Center and will feature events in the sprints, hurdles, jumps and throws.The competition will resume on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. at Fitzgerald Field House with distance and relay events.

Cross Country Set For Two Meets This Weekend Sep 15, 2011

PITTSBURGH - Pitt's cross country team will compete in two separate races on Saturday, Sept. 17. First, one group of runners will travel to Princess Anne, Md. for the Cappy Anderson Invitational, held at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Simultaneously, several other Panthers will run in the Duquesne Tri-Meet at Schenley Park.

Cambrya Jones, Women's 4x100M Relay Join Lowery at NCAA's May 30, 2011

University of Pittsburgh Excels in NCAA Academic Progress Rate Report May 24, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS - All 19 athletic programs at the University of Pittsburgh meet Academic Progress Rate standards, according to a release from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on Tuesday. The report, which lists full APR scores and penalties for all NCAA Division I athletic programs, takes into account academic progress, graduation and retention rates over a four-year period from 2006-07 to the 2009-10 academic years.One week ago, the NCAA recognized two Pitt squads - Men's Basketball and Gymnastics - for its multi-year APR scores. The teams were ranked among the top-10 percent in their respective sports among NCAA Division I programs. Those top-performing teams registered APR scores ranging from 977 to 1,000, a perfect score. The Pitt gymnastics program received the highest possible score while men's basketball posted a multi-year rate of 985, one of the highest totals in the BIG EAST.

Track and Field Set for BIG EAST Outdoor Championships May 4, 2011

A member of the organization's first class, Woodruff joined such names as Heisman Trophy winner John Lujack, Chuck Davis, Bobby Locke, Sandy Stephens, Ron Sepic, Wil Robinson, coach Abe Everhart and Tod Trent.
