Boys' Shot Put

Geist chases another state crown and history
Yes, we'll get there in a moment.
But first, let's talk about how deep the shot put has been this season in Pennsylvania. Hickory's Evan Blaire has been on fire this season, throwing over 60 last week in Akron. Blaire sits at US#9 currently, and will look to add to it this weekend.

Many others have gone over 55 this year as well: Hempfield's Dom Marshall, State College's Erik Ebel, Saint Marys Area's Tom Bojalad, Northern Lebanon's Dakota Leonhard, and Wissahickon's Yondell Dudley. This has been a remarkable in the event. We've seen countless improvements across the board.
But of course, all eyes will be focused on one competitor: Jordan Geist of Knoch. Geist has broken his own state record six times this season alone. His best, 72-9.5, came this past weekend at Edinboro. It's hard to imagine anyone coming close to Geist on Sunday.
Geist currently holds the junior class record (oh, right-he still has another year after this one). He is #3 all-time in US high school shot put history. He has already a pair of state championships. At this point, it's Geist vs. the tape. Ryan Whiting's state meet record is 68-11.25 from 2005. Geist will be shooting for that and beyond on Sunday. It's just matter of how far.
Geist has talked about his weight training on many occasions. Even when he was throwing in the 70's, he said he was coming off a tough week in the weight room. This past weekend at TSTCA Champs, Geist fouled on what would have been a 74-1, according to an unofficial measurement. What is Geist ready for on Sunday? Don't miss out.
