PTXC WEEKEND RECAP: Some notable performances headline Week 1 of the XC season

Bear Mountain River Run

GIRLS RESULTS

Sera Mazza of Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy, who had a very impressive freshman year last season, is back at it in her sophomore year. Mazza won in 18:52, getting off to a good start this season. Central Mountain's Alyssa Laughner was second in 19:00 and Solanco's Cortney Johnson was third in 19:14.

Central Cambria, however, was too much for the reigning Single-A state champs from SJCA. Central Cambria showed its strength and depth, putting four in the top 12. Sydney Gilkey was the first Red Devil across the line, taking fourth in 19:24. Paige Wess was sixth, Emma Wess was eighth and Carly Kaschalk was 12th. Central Cambria scored 51 points to SJCA's 92. It was a good start for the PA Preseason #3 team.

BOYS RESULTS

Southern Columbia's Ethan Knoebel edged out Williamport's Tyler Holcomb for the win at Lock Haven on Saturday. Knoebel, a sophomore, improved eight places from this meet last season to take the win in a time that was about 44 seconds faster than a year ago. Waynesboro's Christopher Maichle was third in 16:29, while the defending race champ, Archbishop Curley's Nathan Jecelin, was fourth in 16:35.

Central Cambria boys, like the girls, took home a convincing team win scoring 59 points, well ahead of second place General McLane, which had 117 points.
