Weather, Course Yield Fast Times At Lehigh: Paul Short Run Recap

Paul Short Run - HS Brown Race Recap

Katie Dammer was looking forward to Friday. The Abington Heights senior, who came into the weekend at PA#3, was yet to see a truly competitive race this season. She ran away with the win at the season-opening Lions Invitational, but on a perfect day at Lehigh, Dammer would have plenty of competition and a chance at a fast time.

Both happened on Friday, as Dammer was challenged through about two miles and she stormed home with the win in a time of 17:50, her first time under 18 in her career. It's a sign of good things to come for Dammer, who now gears up for championship season.

After that, Souderton's Emily Bonaventure and Cocalico's Jamie Zamrin took spots two and three, both clocking in at 18:03. Bonaventure and Zamrin both went out on the conservative side, particularly Zamrin, but it paid off in the second half of the race.

Bay Shore's Roshni Singh was fourth in 18:06, coming down from New York. Marian Catholic's Tina Capparell continued her strong season with another great race, taking fifth in 18:13. Oley Valley's Rebecca Snyder was sixth in 18:18.

The girls from Centerville (Ohio) showed why they are ranked No. 7 in the country. Centerville fit its top six between spots 11 and 25 to score just 61 points for a convincing win. Morgantown from West Virginia took second with 148 points.

Also scoring 148 points (but taking third on a tiebreaker) was PA#3 Owen J. Roberts. For a second straight week, the OJR girls turned in a strong performance, proving they're the team to beat in District 1 this season. Mary Bernotas (18:50) and Autumn Sands (18:51) both placed inside the top 20.

PA#10 Governor Mifflin, led by Andrea Miller's 16th place finish, was fourth, and Parkland turned some heads with a fifth place finish, just behind GM.
