Girls' Recap

Mount Lebanon's Molly Mangan ran to an impressive victory with a great early season time in the 300-meter hurdles. The junior, who was sixth at states in the event last year in AAA, went 43.87 to take over as the PA#1 in the event.

Savannah Shaw took home a pair of wins. The Upper Saint Clair senior won the 1,600 (PA#2 5:02.14) and the 3,200 (PA#8 11:19.96) in a busy invite season opener. PA#1 Liz Simms of Butler kept her season rolling in the 800. She ran 2:18.94 to win the event on Saturday. Butler also ran well in the relays, winning the 4x4 and 4x8 to move up in the state rankings.

South Park's Maura Huwalt picked up a pair of wins and a bronze in the throws on Saturday. She won the discus (PA#4 140-10) and the shot put (PA#6 40-09). She took third in the javelin, which Baldwin's Laurel Bristow won with a PA#5 throw of 140-11.

Upper Saint Clair's Jane Madson captured the 200 meter win in 25.44 (PA#7). Freshman Maddie Raymond of South Park made her presence known. She won the 100 meters in 12.50 and took second to Madson in the 200. South Fayette's Rachel Helbling ran well to take the 400 meter win in 58.11 (PA#6).


Boys' Recap

Alex Trower of Penn Hills started off his outdoor season on a great foot, winning a pair of events in the sprints and setting new PRs in both. Trower went 10.87 (PA#4) to win the 100 and then came back to run 21.79 (PA#2) to win the 200.

Another double winner on the day was New Castle's Le'Shawn Huff, who picked up victories in both the 800 (2:00) and the 1,600 (4:27). Noah Beveridge of Butler ran well in the 3,200 meters and earned a PA#1 in the process. The senior won in 9:19.87, nearly 22 seconds ahead of second place.

South Fayette's Sam Mastro threw to the state lead in the discus. The senior tossed the disc 166-00 for the win and a new PA#1. He also won the shot put with a throw of 50-01.

Emmanuel Mitchell of Penn Hills won the high jump with a PA#6 clearance of 6-05. Waynesburg Central's Will Behm out-dueled Jack Codispot of Butler for the pole vault win. Both boys jumped 14-03 (T-PA#5).
