AAA Boys' 100m Preview
An abundance of depth is coming to Ship in the boys' 100 meters and it should be one of the more exciting events of the weekend. Last year, Journey Brown of Meadville rolled to a PIAA meet record. This year, we'll see how quick this group can go.
The WPIAL champion Alex Trower of Penn Hills will look to take home the gold this weekend. The senior is having a terrific spring that was punctuated by a District 7 title last week. He ran a PR of 10.69 and will be one to watch this weekend.
There's a lot of District 1 talent that will come to play, as well. Sayyid Saunders of Harry S. Truman has a season best of 10.64 to his name. Last year, he placed fourth in the state final and is the only boy in this field that medaled last year. But he was seventh at districts, the victim of a poor start. Neshaminy's Savion Hebron earned the win there. Hebron will be in the mix for the title. So will Upper Moreland's Caleb Mead, Coatesville's Eric Kirk, Boyertown's Jamison Moccia, and Central Bucks West's Luke Benson.
Bishop McDevitt's JuQuill Adams won the District 3 title. Along with Central Dauphin East's Shawn Brown (10.72 season best), D3 is bringing a strong contingent. State College's Cohen Russell will be in the hunt. he ran 10.92 to win the District 6 title.
North Hills' Tom McDonough and Canon-McMillan's Kamden Martin are among the other contenders. A number of other boys will have a shot at making the final, and from there, it's all about who has the best race. District meets saw a number of unexpected boys emerge as contenders. This field is pretty wide open across the board.
