AA Boys' 100m Hurdles Preview
Waynesburg Central's Daniel Layton will look to turn his strong season into a AA state title this weekend. Layton ran the fastest AA time so far this season, a 14.65, and then posted the fastest districts time in AA, a 14.73, to win the WPIAL title.
But the only returning finalist from a year ago in this field is Nazir Dunell of Elmer L. Meyers. Last year, he turned it on at the right time and took third in the state. He's run a season best of 15.14 so far this spring.
Overall, this field seems fairly wide open for the taking. There's a big list of boys that has run sub-15 this season after Layton. District 9 champion Jacob Patton of Moniteau went 14.73 earlier this year. In a terrific WPIAL final, Derry Area's Shawn Broadway edged out South Park's Sam Hartman. Broadway has a season best of 14.80, while Hartman has run 14.79.
Dock Mennonite's Nick Smith, who ran away with the District 1 title, posted a best of 14.89 this spring. Kobe Joseph of Sharpsville Area clocked a PR of 14.89 to win at the District 10 Championship. Littlestown's Derek Herr, Windber Area's Justin Vasas, and Bermudian Springs' Payton Rohrbaugh will also look to make the final in the high hurdles.
