12/12 | (Photos by Patty Morgan) Indoor track is back and the ladies of the DVGTCA
entered Lehigh University’s indoor facility prepared to set a marker on the new
season. Some athletes and relays sent very strong messages to their
competitors. Brooklynn Broadwater of Springside Chestnut Hill had the
individual performance of the night. The 400 meter indoor champion started her
title defense with an emphatic win in 57.55! That time would have been her 2nd
fastest time in the event for all of 2014! AAA outdoor 800 meter champion
Maddie Villalba of Central Bucks West ran 59.67 to finish 2nd. We also had our first big head to head matchup as indoor
60 meter hurdles state record holder Ciara Leonard of Cheltenham faced Markeeta
Thomas of Paul Robeson. Leonard won on this day, as Thomas hit the 3rd
hurdle while chasing the state runner up. Leonard won the race in 8.86. Thomas
did recover nicely and won the 300 meter dash in 42.51. Next to make some noise is Taylor Chapman of Pennridge.
The senior started her season with victory in the 200 meter dash with a time of
25.52 to win by nearly a full second. The relays were traditionally strong for the opening
night, but the one result that jumps off the page is the 4x400 meter relay
performance of Springside Chestnut Hill. The Inter-Ac outfit won the event
Friday night by 7 seconds with a winning time of 4:03.23! The team didn’t reach
those heights until the PTFCA Carnival last February! Cheltenham ran 4:10.06 to
finish 2nd. The 4x200 meter relay saw rising program Neumann Goretti
edge out perennial 4x200 power house Pennridge 1:49.92 to 1:49.94 to win the
race. The distance medley relay saw four teams break 13 minutes, led by
Gabrielle Wilkinson’s Friends Central squad, victorious in 12:44.00 The standout performance in the field events belongs to
Janese Lynch of Academy Park, who threw 41-1.75 to win the shot put by over two
full feet. It is her best overall throw by nearly 2.5 feet! Returning long jump medalists Ariana Przybylowski of Pennridge and Carol Burgess of Great Valley shared the top spot in the long jump with identical 17 foot markings. The triple jump went to Evelyn Berecz of Downingtown East, who set a personal best by a full foot in her first ever indoor triple jump with a winning mark of 3-9.25. Nicolette Serratore of Methacton was a ¼ inch behind the winner to earn 2nd place. Girls Highlights
