10/31-PIAA Starting Lane Assignments

Starting lane assignments from the PIAA for the State Championships, 11/1/03 in Hershey.

In the 10 am AA Girls race, Gwynedd Mercy and Dallas are within two lanes of each other, which will give Dallas a chance to focus on the Monarchs if they want to stay in the race. Wyomissing and Quaker Valley are within a lane of each other, smack in the middle of the field. Getting out from this spot will be key, because both corners will converge on the point.

In the 10:45 am AAA Girls race, Allentown Central Catholic and North Allegheny are in lanes 13 and 14, with Hatboro-Horsham just two spots away in lane 16. Not far away, but more toward the middle of the start, are Chambersburg and Parkland. The black of Hatboro will be harder to spot than the Parkland Red and Allentown Central Catholic gold.

In Boys AA at 11:30 am, Scranton Prep is in 11. The center area will see a lot of jockeying, with Greensburg Central Catholic in 17, Lewisburg in 19, Wyomissing in 21, Quaker Valley in 24, Eisenhower in 27 and Devon Prep in 28. That's a lot of talented teams heading for one point in close proximity to each other.

And in the 12:15 pm Boys AAA race, North Hills and Henderson are side-by-side. Lurking just two and four lanes away, more toward the middle, will be Cedar Cliff and Coatesville. This race could be decided early if one of these teams panics and uses too much, too soon. It's location, location, location, yes... but not at the expense of energy. Once it's beyond the mile, this course is not forgiving to those who need to do a lot of passing, until, of course, the final straightaway. But often by then, it can be too late. And toward the right flank will be Carlisle, Mount Lebanon and Council Rock-North, side-by-side-by-side. This one has the makings for a very fast pace.
