The start, and Koons is right to the front. Hatboro gets out well, and checks to see where the competition is.
By 1.25 miles, Koons is in charge.
But Umbel isn't willing to let her go, so she leaves the chase group behind. And if you look at this photo and the next two, you'll see Hatboro has three near the front. A good start. 
And three more Lady Hatters sooner, rather than later.
It's tough leading from the gun, but Koons said when no one was with her early, "that was OK, too."

The top frosh in the state was Liz Kearins of Central Bucks West, who would move up from 5th here, to 3rd.
