Week 2 PTXC Outdoor Athletes of the Week

Girls

Track

We have co-athletes of the week on the track. They are Harrisburg stars Sierra Brabham-Lawrence and Ty'Asia Dansbury. This duo were firing on all cylinders through the strong wind at the Bruce Dallas meet, with the two combining to win five individual events from the 400 meters down. Brabham-Lawrence swept the hurdle events, with a PA#3 45.25 in the 300 meter hurdles the highlight of her day.

Dansbury won the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes, running a state leading 12.40 and two other PA#3 marks.

Field

Jocelen Ruth of Kutztown Area wins this week's field athlete award. The junior is a special throwing talent who can compete at a high level in the shot put, the discus, and the javelin. At the Bruce Dallas Invitational, Ruth competed in all three throws and was victorious in all three. Her shot put and discus marks were the best marks in the state this week. She is currently PA#3 in the shot put and discus, and PA#4 in the javelin!

Boys

Track

This week was an easy choice and it goes to our first US#1 performer of the season. John Lewis of Cheltenham made his debut in the 400 meter hurdles over the weekend, the event that some say could be his main event at the college level. Lewis battled through the 30mph wind gusts and recorded a US#1 time of 53.80 to set a new meet record! He also ran the open 400 and set a new state leading mark of 48.42 for good measure. Lewis is indeed on a roll!

Field

When you add over 20 feet to your personal best in the javelin, you have earned the field athlete of the week award. That man is Derek Ziegenfuss of Parkland. In a dual meet last Monday, Ziegenfuss threw 204-2, his first time over 200 feet in his career and the first over 200 feet this season. Prior to that performance, his best was 182-7 at districts.
