Before he became the state's brightest sprint star last summer and into this winter, Coatesville's Terrance Laird nearly won an outdoor state championship in the 200 meters. In a thrilling race to the finish, Downintown West's superb star Josh McLemore nipped Laird at the line. Both clocked times of 21.41, but on the photo, it was McLemore by the slimmest of margins.

McLemore has since graduated and is off at the University of Tennessee. Laird, meanwhile, is getting ready to finsih up his senior season before he heads to Penn State. He has a indoor state title and a third place medal from nationals. Laird will be heavily favored to take the AAA state title in the 200 meters that just slipped out of his grasp last spring. He ran 21.27 at AAU Nationals last spring, and this winter ran a best of 21.31.
