Hatboro-Horsham's Nick Marino already had the pole vault competition wrapped up at Shippensburg on Saturday.
After a great dual with PA#2 Payton Morris of East Pennsboro, Marino, the state leader, cleared 16 feet and was on to 16-3, which would better his own PA#1. On his attempt, Marino was over the bar, but he clipped it on the way down. But instead of falling to the mat like usual, it bounced and landed back on its barrings.
Sometimes the bar is kind.
Marino had a few good looks at 16-5, but he won the competition with that PA#1 16-3 and a PR. He's now just three inches off the state record, which stands at 16-6. There are certainly plenty of meets left in the season.
