Josh Hoey is ready for a big conclusion to his senior season on the indoor track. He hadn't contested the open 800 meters yet this season, so the Bishop Shanahan senior went to Penn State on Thursday evening to get at least a state qualifier out of the way.
But he left State College with much more than that, running a new US No. 1 time in the 800 meters. And he did so without wearing spikes.
Hoey ran a time of 1:51.49, the seventh fastest time in Pennsylvania at the State College Invitational #3 on Penn State's Ashenfelter Track. It's the fastest time in the nation by over two seconds (Alfred Chawonza from New Jersey was the previous US#1 at 1:53.52).
Hoey is already PA No. 1 and US No. 2 in the mile after running 4:07.42 for the win at the Millrose Games. His performance in the 800 on Thursday is an indoor PR.

Girls Highlights
- The Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy girls ran a PA#4 in the DMR, clocking a quick 12:39.96 for the win.
- Makenna Krebs of Central Dauphin East put down a PA#6 of 2:15.97 to win the 800 meters.
- State College's Kileigh Kane ran 10:18.55 in the 3,000 meters for the win to move her to PA#7.
Boys Highlights
- State College's Mitchell Etter won the 3,000 meters in a PA#3 time of 8:48.57 in a race that saw three others go under 9 minutes.
- Luke Knipe of State College cleared a PA#5 of 15-0 in the pole vault for the win. His previous indoor best was 13-9.
- Stanley Hamilton of State College leapt 46-1.5 in the triple jump, good enough for a new PA#5.
- The Wyomissing Area boys put down a 10:38.07 in the DMR, a new PA#4 time.
