A year ago, Carlisle's Sam Affolder and McDonogh (MD)'s Dalton Hengst went head-to-head in one of the season's best races last year. At Carlisle's Stan Morgan Invitational, Hengst picked up the win in 4:08.04, a few tenths ahead of Affolder, who clocked in at 4:08.67 The two texted about wanting to run a quick 1,600 meters and the dual was set up.
The pair worked together throughout the race with Hengst ultimately getting the best of Affolder, with the pair running then-US#4 and US#5 times.
Both boys -- underclassmen last year -- have moved on from their schools; Affolder now attends Loudoun Valley in Virginia, while Hengst, a PA resident, is competing unattached this spring. We won't see a rematch at Stan Morgan this season, but the entries for this year race are still strong.
