AAA Boys' Triple Jump Preview
The unfortunate absence of Treyvon Ferguson, the Milton Hershey senior and defending AAA state champion, will be felt (Ferguson did not compete at the District 3 Championships), but it leaves the event much more wide open.
The top seed and PA#2 (behind only Ferguson) is State College Area's Lance Hamilton. At Saint Joseph's Catholic in AA last year, Hamilton placed 11th, but he's improved quite a bit this season at State College. He leapt 48-04 to win the District 6 title and will look to move up to the No. 1 spot after a fourth place finish at indoor states.
The District 3 champion is Jakari Lomax of Harrisburg, a very clutch performer. He jumped a PR of 47-02 last week to win D3 at Ship. He'll return to that very runway this week, looking for a similar result. He took a close second at indoor states. Imhotep's Akeem Cooper was third in that exciting indoor state meet in the TJ. He put down his outdoor career best of 47-01 to win the District 12 title and should compete for the win at states.
Northeastern's DJ Hamilton is the only other boy with a leap over 47 feet this year. He went 47-02.75 to win the YAIAA and placed third at District 3 this past weekend. Spring Grove's Noah Hayes was second in the deep District 3 and will look to be a factor this weekend. Strath Haven's Dayo Abeeb, State College's Stanley Hamilton, Scranton's Ky'ron Harbin, and Neshaminy's Logan Williamson make up a solid list of boys on the cusp of 47 feet that will compete for medals this weekend.
