- 2017 Champion: Garrett Baublitz (Juniata) - 16:03
Garrett Baublitz will go for his third straight District 6 Class AA this fall. The rising junior at Juniata won as a freshman and cruised to the win last fall before taking ninth at the state meet. He heads into 2018 as the heavy favorite for a D6-AA repeat and one of the top names in all of AA this season.
Taking down Baublitz will be no easy task, but there are a number of other strong runners in D6-AA this fall.
Tyrone Area's Zach Kohler was third at districts and 32nd at states. The rising senior will look to close out his XC career on a high note and jet into the top 25 for a state medal this fall. Forest Hills' Michell Chunta also qualified for states individually last season. He was fourth at districts and 60th at states. He'll be looking for another strong season this fall.
Central Cambria, the defending team champions, return some strong individual talent. Ohm Vyas was 49th at states last year after a sixth place districts finish. His teammate Nate Kuntz was seventh in the district and 90th at states. Both will be looking to move up this season and earn crucial team point for the Red Devils.
One big change coming to D6 this fall is the re-entry of District 5 Class AA, which only constitutes a few teams. Still, there are some strong individuals that will compete for the limited states spots. Bedford's Van May, the reigning D5-AA champion, will one to watch. He ended up just outside the medals, in 27th at the state meet. Cejay Walker of Somerset Area, twice a D5-AA runner-up, will look for success in D6 this season, too. Westmont Hilltop's Nick Fetzer, a 1A state qualifier out of D6 last year, is another D6-AA newcomer to watch for this season.
