Last year, Esther Seeland ran to a surprise 800 meter state crown, with an incredible kick at Penn State. She followed that up with an outdoor AAA state crown in the event. Seeland has graduated and so has fellow star Gabrielle Wilkinson, leaving a void to be filled in the half mile. Who's ready to step up?
The top returner from last year based on time is Taryn Parks of Greencastle-Antrim, who dropped a 2:13 at the Carnival last season. She was 10th at states after running the mile early in the day (the mile is her specialty).
The top indoor state meet returner is Christine Mancini of Cardinal O'Hara, who went 2:14.1 to take fourth at Penn State. She's had a strong career to this point and the senior will look to cap it off in a big way. Greensburg Salem's Malia Anderson was fifth at states, just behind Mancini, taking fifth in 2:14.9.
