Big Performances All Weekend: Week 2 Recap

DVGTCA Meet #1 - Meet Recap

The DVGTCA season opened up on Friday night at Lehigh, and it started with a bang.

The Strath Haven girls showed they'll be quite the force in the relays this season. In the night's first event, Haven dropped a DVGTCA meet record of 12:02.10 to win the DMR. Grace Forbes on the 1600 meter anchor leg, split a 4:51 to bring the win and record home. That time is also a US#1 on the season.

Neumann Goretti proved its depth to start the season. The Saints closed out the meet with the nation's first sub-4 4x400-meter relay of the season. The squad clocked a 3:59.27, a US#1 and a sign NG will be the team to beat once again in the event. Earlier in the meet, NG's Mykala Perry ran away with the 600 meter win, running a time of 1:35.93, following up her 800 win from last week.

Cheltenham had a strong Friday night. Bria Barnes ran to the 60-meter dash win in a time of 7.80, an early season state-leading time. In the high jump, Brianna Smith claimed another win for the Panthers. Smith jumped 5-07, without any misses all the way up to her final clearance.

In arguably the most star-studded event of the day, Christina Warren of Perkiomen Valley won the 60 meter hurdles in 8.77, a strong start to her season. Smith of Cheltenham took second in a PR of 9.03 and Saint Basil's Tia Taylor was third (9.07) and Council Rock South's Elke Knecht (9.18). Warren returned later for the triple jump, grabbing the win with a leap of 38-07.5. Friends' Central's Inara Shell was second with a jump of 37-06.25.
