Boys' Distance Medley Relay Preview
The boys DMR will get very interesting on Sunday afternoon, as many teams will be in contention during what will be a busy day for most teams before this event.
Mifflin County emerged as the PA#1 late in the season, dropping a 10:32 at Penn State. Mifflin will have some boys in individual events before the DMR, but the Huskies can still mix it up with some talented legs. Downingtown West went 10:36, a PA#2 at the Varsity Classic. The Whippets have some solid pieces and should make a run at the title, possibly as the team to beat.
Lower Merion dropped a 10:38 in that Varsity Classic race, and will be going in fresh to the DMR. That time is a PA#3. Look for LM to be up near the front with the legs to compete for the win. Twin Valley will also be a fresh squad -- they scratched the 4x8 and don't have an individual qualifiers in. So TV going all-in will bode well for this team late in the day on Sunday.
Haverford Township is another talented team in this field. They'll be in the mix for the 4x8 win, but also have a 10:39 to their name from the VA Showcase earlier this season. LaSalle College, too, will be coming off the 4x8, but they have a squad that is well suited to drop a quick DMR on Sunday.
The reigning champions from Seneca Valley are back, looking to keep that title in house. The Raiders have good depth and can drop another big performance on the heels of their TSTCA win last week. Mount Lebanon was just behind SV at TSTCAs, and with a anchor leg in Patrick Anderson (a mile title contender), also cannot be counted out.
West Chester East and Radnor are among the other strong teams entered that should compete near the front. With one heat, the sparks will fly in this race.It will be incredibly close with any number of teams having a legitimate title chance.
