PIAA States Preview: Boys' Jumps

AA Boys' Triple Jump Preview

The top returner from last year's state meet is also the top seed entering this weekend's state meet in the AA boys triple jump. Keystone's Brody Coleman was fourth last season and is back as the top-ranked AA triple jumper with a 45-5 from last week's District 9 Championship, which he won. Coleman was sixth at indoor states with a jump of 46-0 and will be the one to beat.

It should be close, though. CJ Cole of McGuffey jumped 45-3.25 to win the WPIAL crown this past week. That was a PR by well over two feet and now Cole has become a contender for the state title if he can replicate that effort at states. Hopewell's David McDonald, fourth at WPIALs, is the only other AA boy that jumped past 45 feet this season.

7 other boys have jumped 44 feet or better this season. East Allegheny's Khyree Marshall was second at WPIALs, also logging a huge PR with a jump of 44-10.75; he'll be shooting for a repeat performance. Dominic Caputo of Montoursville won the District 4 title with a leap of 44-8.5, and should be a threat to the top spot at states.

Hickory's Brian Phillips, Bermudian Springs' Kolt Byers, Cranberry's Cameron Russell, and Palmerton's Jordan Nelson have all also jumped 44 feet or better. It's a very open field for the this triple jump title.
