PIAA States Preview: Boys' Jumps

AA Boys' Pole Vault Preview

Waynesburg Central's Daniel Layton has had a long two weeks. After almost not being able to run the 110-meter hurdles, an event where he is among the favorites, he was eventually reinstated. But he was always in the pole vault, an event where he is also capable of winning the state title in AA.

Layton cleared a AA best of 14-7 this season. He was third at states a year ago and is the top returner in the field. He'll aim for his first career gold in the event.

5 others have jumped 14 feet or better this season. The top seed based on district performances is Isaac Lightcap of Lakeview. The District 10 champ has cleared 14-6 this season, as he's transformed into a terrific vaulter this spring. He'll contend for the win here for sure.

Moniteau's Kyle Norling, Milton Area's Brant Long, and Annville-Cleona's Neil Waldhausen, and Camp Hill's Brody Myers have also gone over 14 feet. Norling has the best of that trio with a 14-2 season best.
