AAA Girls' 200m Preview
There will be an an intriguing matchup in the AAA girls 200 meters. Saucon Valley's Talitha Diggs and Cheltenham's Bria Barnes are the top seeds here, and they're expected to battle it out in the 400 as well. Diggs went 24.39 to win the District 11 crown, the top AAA time in the state, while Barnes took the District 1 win in 24.46, just off her season best of 24.41.
Second to Davies at indoor states and the top seed, Diggs could be seen as the favorite, but she'll be challenged by the likes of Barnes and others. Warwick's Leah Graybill will be busy at states, but she went 24.72 during a busy District 3 Championships. She went 24.42 at Henderson, where she beat Barnes. Graybill will be in the mix for the win here, too.
Mastery-Shoemaker's Marlina Voker posted a big PR of 24.80 to win the District 12 title this past week. She was a AA medalist a year ago. Now in AAA, don't count out this upstart, who should make some noise. Norristown's Teliyah James is only entered in the 200 meters for states (along with a relay), so she'll be among the freshest in the field. She has some serious speed and a 24.52 to her name this season.
100 meter top seed Hayden Robinson of Avonworth/Northgate will be a factor in the 200 as well. She captured the WPIAL title in this event, too and has run 24.87 this season. Her sister Hunter won this event last year, so she'll aim to keep it in the family. Another contender is Donegal's Taylor Nissly, who has caught fire in the last few weeks. She was second to Graybill in D3 and has run 24.72 this season in the 200.
This is a deep field, and just making the final will be no easy task for anyone. Who will have the speed on Saturday afternoon?
