AA Boys' 200m Preview
Like the 100 meters, a close one is coming our way in the AA boys 200 meters. Top seed and top AA runner Ian Thrush of Brookville Area popped a very fast 21.48 to win the District 9 title this past week, a sign that he's hitting top form at the right time. It will be a busy day for Thrush, but the junior will be the one to beat here. His teammates Bryan Dworek, who went 21.79 at D9, and Jack Krug, the seventh seed here, will be in contention as well.
Marlin Devonshire of Aliquippa, the top seed in the 100, went 21.73 to win the WPIAL crown. He ran away with that victory and also appears to be running his best at the right time. Bishop McDevitt's Tyler Byrd went 22.01 (he's run 21.87 earlier in the season) to win the District 12 title in a close one over Imhotep's Hafis Upshaw. Byrd is talented an capable of taking the title here. The same goes for Upshaw, who emerged with a 21.64 at the Public League Champs a few weeks ago.
The top returner in the field ins Donovan Sanders of Girard College. He ran to the District 1 title this past week and took fourth last year in this event. Others in the field with sub-22 times on the season include Motivation's Laminu Abbas and Carlynton's Dequay Canton.
Thrush's big time makes him the favorite here, but this will be a very interesting race come Saturday afternoon.
