AAA Boys' 200m Preview
Neshaminy's Savion Hebron executed a strong race in late February and brought home the indoor state title in the 200 meters. Fast forward to outdoors, Hebron is showing he can win the outdoor title as well. The senior and Penn State recruit dropped the state's fastest AAA time in the 200 meters at the District 1 Championships, running 21.35. He's the top seed entering the weekend and may be the one to beat.
Lampeter-Strasburg's Ezra Mellinger, the favorite in the long jump, will also have a shot at the 200 meter title. He ran 21.54 to win the District 3 crown. He also went 21.48 earlier this season and has the speed to burn. Central Dauphin East's Shawn Brown and Mechanicsburg's Joseph Bruno are also part of a good D3 contingent in this field.
WPIAL champion Brendan O'Malley of Baldwin ran 21.55 in the prelims this past week at districts and showed that the versatile senior will be one to watch. District 12 will have some contenders in champion Salim Epps from Saint Joseph's Prep (21.77 for the D12 win and 21.61 at PCLs) and Northeast's Darlington Brooks and Overbrook's Tymir Jackson.
Coatesville's Dymere Miller and Downingtown East's Zach DeLone looked sharp, taking second and third, respectively, to Hebron at District 1. Mifflinburg's Eric Zimmerman showed he can contend for a high states finish after a 21.88 for the District 4 win.
