PIAA States Preview: Boys' Throws

AAA Boys' Shot Put Preview

Somerset Area's Nick Hyde will look to cap off what has been a great senior season with a state crown in the AAA shot put. Hyde has been the best -- and most consistent -- shot putter in the AAA field this season, and possibly even the state. He's thrown over is five different meets (the only AAA over 60 this spring), and holds a season best of 62-5 from LHACs. He was second a year ago, but he'll be primed to win a state title this weekend.

There are a number of boys in the 57-58 foot range that will be shooting for the upset. Jason Wagner of Perkiomen Valley, the District 1 champion, has thrown 58-6 this season. He'll look for a big day to go for a high podium spot. Berks Catholic's Brandon George comes in as the No. 2 seed. The senior threw his season best of 57-6 to in at District 3. He was seventh in the state a year ago.

Fleetwood Area's Jeff Kline will be one to watch. The junior was third at indoor states and has a season best of 58-0.5. He was the D3 runner-up. Chambersburg's Brock Harmon (55-5 season best) and Wilson's Jack Miller (56-8.75 season best) round out a very solid District 3 contingent in this competition that will have a shot at high podium finishes.

Pottsgrove's Justin Adams and District 11 champion Thomas Kitchell of Notre Dame-Green Pond are among the others to watch in the shot put circle this weekend in AAA.
