AAA Boys' Discus Preview
The AAA discus should bring a very close competition for the state title in an event that will have a whole different crop of medalists this season (all 8 medalists from last year were seniors).
The top seed and AAA No. 1 is Brandon George of Berks Catholic. The senior has had a big last few weeks in the event. He threw 184-1 to win the county title and then threw 178-4 to win the District 3 title and give him the top seed on Saturday afternoon. He looks to be the one to beat.
Notre Dame-Green Pond's Thomas Kitchell will offer a good challenge. He's coming off a nice PR of 176-9 to win the District 11 Championships and looks to be in good form heading into the weekend. Somerset's Nick Hyde, the shot put top seed, will be a factor in the discus, too. He threw a season best of 169-5 at Altoona and he took home the District 6 title last week. Both boys will be in the hunt for the win.
3 others enter the weekend with best throws over 160 feet. Aidan Hayward of Owen J. Roberts won the District 1 title and threw 166-3 to win the PAC crown. Fleetwood Area's Jeff Kline was runner-up in District 3 to George and should be a factor with a SB of 162-7. Adam Park of Saint Marys Area (161-3 season best) should also be in the mix for a medal here.
Wilson's Jack Miller, Chambersburg's Brock Harmon, and Cocalico's Josh Hoover will make a run at the podium, too, in this field.
